Chicago’s Blood Of The Wolf will release their sophomore effort “II: Campaign of Extermination” on April 7th, 2018. You can pick up their debut “I: The Law of Retaliation” on their bandcamp page, as well as have a listen to a track off the new album before it drops. Full review of the album forthcoming, in the meantime we’ve got this here brief interrogation of the band. Get to know them!
For those unfamiliar with your band, please give a brief one liner about your sound and a quick FFO.
Barbaric, blasting, blackened death metal. For fans of Belphegor, Marduk, God Dethroned and Infernal War. No corpse paint, no costumes, no bullshit!
What was the writing process like for your album?
Nothing extraordinary. No animals were sacrificed. No demons were summoned. It all starts with good riffs (I’m a guitarist). Those good riffs turn into good songs. Then a collection of the best songs becomes the album that hopefully people will like!
What do you think sets your band apart from the rest? What does Blood of the Wolf bring to the table that no one else does?
We’re not trendy. That’s what makes us different. What Blood of the Wolf offers is good song writing. In my life I have a “just do it right” philosophy. Hopefully that comes across in the music I make.
What sort of things inspire you to create music? Satan.
How do you feel about the current state of the music industry, in particular streaming services, “illegal” downloads and such?
It’s a good thing. It’s extremely convenient and you have access to anything and everything you could possibly want to listen to. FOR FREE. I’d rather not go to a store, buy a CD I’ve never heard before, pay $15 for and not like. What percentage of that money do the actual creators of the music get anyway? Sure, some might say you’re not supporting the band, but you can do that in other ways, like buying a t-shirt.
If you could share the stage with any other musician (dead or alive), who would it be?
In 2017 we opened shows for Belphegor and Marduk, two of my favorite bands. I guess it would be cool to play with Vader, Infernal War, Angelcorpse and Krisiun, to name a few. I’m happy with what we’ve achieved so far.
Which albums are in your top 10 right now?
Good question!
Belphegor-Totenritual
Dark Funeral-Where Shadows Forever Reign
Gloria Morti-Lateral Constraint
Hate Eternal-Infernus
Infernal War-Axiom
Kreator-Gods of Violence
Malevolent Creation-Dead Man’s Path
Marduk-Frontschwein
Temple of Baal-Mysterium
Voidhanger-Working Class Misanthropy
Fast forward 5 years from now, what’s Blood of the Wolf doing?
By then we would probably have another album or two out. It would be nice to play out of Illinois more, play some larger fests, continue to open for national touring acts, keep pressing shirts, hoodies, etc. maybe get some label support…
Craziest thing you’ve ever done together with the band?
Nothing. We’re pretty normal, mature, hard working people. We don’t really fuck around (or do stupid shit) which is one of the reasons we’ve achieved what we have.
Thanks for your time, anything else you’d like to add?
Enjoy the music. Buy a shirt. Come see us live.
