We present to you a collection of bands unknown. Or perhaps not known well enough in the opinions of the Void Unveiled collective. We encourage you to dig deeper than the surface of the musical landscapes presented to you by the larger media outlets. There is a plethora of unknowns within the void that are every bit as deserving of your attention, if not more so. These are our selections from those deserving…
Travis Barber – Snakebearer One man Black Metal act from Finland. What really drew me into Snakebearer, was the song “Churning of the Cosmic Waters”, with it’s old style sounding guitar riffs, and overall structure of the song.
Mike Watts – Ocean of Grief Solid melodies, heavy rhythms and a deep powerful overall sound make this band one to look out for.
Mike Ramirez – Thirteen Senses
Top notch song writing and a distinct sound in an age when it’s really difficult to sound unique. Their last album A Strange Encounter was released 2013 and it was an incredible work of progressive indie rock. Somber in tone but somehow uplifting. Sadly, they’ve been silent since then. Fingers crossed that they come to life again.
Noah Cabitto – Light Of The Morning Star Brilliant dark/Gothic metal with infectious and atmospheric tunes that will make the sunniest of days appear bleak through its shadowy lense. Ffo Tiamat, Type O Negative, Sisters of Mercy.
Chase Brown – Outer Heaven
Dissonant yet groove laden death metal with ominous, heavy vocals. Uncomfortable death metal, cant wait for the full length
Matti Frost – Casualties of Cool
I stumbled onto Casualties of Cool while trying to find snippets and clips of the Z2 album in late 2014. As ‘Daddy’ started playing my ears began to twitch. Followed by ‘Mountaintop’ and then the gentle soaring of ‘Flight’. What the hell is this? Sure, Devin Townsend had flirted with country music on ‘Ghost’ and later on the outtake album ‘Epiclouder’, but this was like something… something entirely different and new. And yet old. It’s like Devin went back in time with Che Aimee Dorval and David Lynch, recorded an album, sealed it away in a time capsule, and unearthed it upon returning to the present timeline. It has become my favorite Devin Townsend album. If you like classic country with a strange, surrealistic Pink Floydian twist, laced through with a dreamy ambiance, you will fall in love with this too. And Che’s voice will haunt you in your sleep. Casualties are currently working on a new album and I cannot wait to hear it.
Jason Jennings – Untamed Land & Grethor Untamed Land…in the mold of epic atmospheric black metal acts like Summoning and Caladan Brood, but instead of a fantasy influence think more spaghetti western. Something a bit different and fun. Unsigned.
Grethor killer blackened death with elements of Morbid Angel, Gorguts, etc. Quality stuff.
